Here
are some common sense, basic tips for healthy eating to assist in
natural weight loss.
Don't
worry too much about counting calories.
All you need is to be aware of is generally which category foods fall
into i.e. low, medium or high in energy, which you probably already do.
Fruit and green vegetables are
generally low, eat as much of these as you wish. Cereals and starches
are medium in energy and generally good for you.
Fats are high in
calories
and shouldn't be over indulged in but they are not as bad as some
people say. High calorie foods do provide a feeling of fullness after
being consumed in only small
amounts so they do help, paradoxically, to counter any urge to over eat.
But there's no
need to
bother about the exact amount of energy in every foodstuff under the
sun. If you eat healthily you will tend to consume fewer calories
naturally
without even noticing it. Natural weight loss depends on factors other
than calories.

Eat
small amounts at a time.
Small meals are best. It's better to eat five small
meals per day than three larger ones - about as much as can be
contained in your two cupped hands would be
ideal. Eating smaller meals
is yet another excellent way of reducing calorie intake without trying.
Again
though, an occasional night out at the local restaurant won't do any
harm - don't deny
yourself your usual celebrations.
Chew
your food properly This
is an
important tip for two reasons. (1)
The digestive processes begins in the mouth - saliva contains enzymes
which partially
digest starches in
the mouth before their final absorption in the small
intestine. If you don't chew thoroughly your food won't digest
properly. This is why people who bolt their food tend to be always
hungry. (2)
The more you chew your food the
greater
the cross sectional area you expose for the digestive juices of
the stomach to work on.
Do chew each mouthful thoroughly - until it's creamy and well mixed
with saliva. The better you digest your food the
less you will need to eat.
Liquids.
The tip above should also be applied to liquids - soups, milk,
etc - try to mix them with saliva before you swallow. Try to 'chew your
liquids and 'drink' your solids.
Try
to eat a high percentage of raw food One of the reasons we
tend to swallow too quickly is the
softening of our food in the act of cooking, particularly overcooking.
Imagine you're chewing mushy peas, thirty times would need a conscious
effort but you'll
find that when you eat a raw apple you'll have trouble swallowing it in
less than thirty
chews.
So, try to include as much raw fruit &
vegetables (especially fruit) as you can. This doesn't mean
you have to become a rabbit to lose weight naturally.
Avoid
all those Needless flavourings and colourings that
manufacturers love adding to
our diet. There's evidence that chemicals can affect your weight.
There's nothing wrong with natures own colours and
flavours.
Do
eat whole foods
Some authorities say refined starches are just
as bad for you as
sugar. Brown rice and wholemeal bread are worlds better for
you
than their refined counterparts. They are so readily available that
there's little excuse for not using them. They're much tastier as well.
Keep
sugar consumption low Possibly more than any
other foodstuff sugar comes in for criticism.
It's been associated with just about every disease you can
think off and is unfortunately added to many of the processed foods
that we buy at our supermarkets. Be militant about reading the labels
and miss out produce containing sugar as much as possible. Eat sugar
only when you choose and not when it's forced on you.
Organic
food is best Where possible buy organic food. Shop at your
local health shop or, if
you have one near you, a farm shop. Most
supermarkets now stock a good
range of
organic food so buy from their organic range
rather than their other products.
Think you are too busy
to take time to cook properly and healthily? Not so. Busy moms,
students, dads - just about anyone can prepare good healthy meals for
the family in thirty minutes or less. Save yourself some time and gain
yourself some health. Give the pizza's a rest and just try,

And, don't forget to,
Treat
yourself now and then If
you live on ready meals and takeaways and the like
then unless you're one of the natural skinnies you're not going to get
very
far with weight loss. But this doesn't mean you have to totally ban
them. The whole point of natural weight loss is that nothing is
prohibited. The occasional ice cream sundae, or whatever you fancy,
won't do any harm.
Get into the habit of healthy
eating and you won't want them anywhere near as much.
